Religious freedom wins in the Norwegian Supreme Court!
On 29 April 2026 The Supreme Court of Norway ruled in a 3–2 judgment (HR-2026-1009-A, case no. 25-089326SIV-HRET) that decisions to deny Jehovah’s Witnesses state funding and registration were invalid. The Centre for Law and Religious Freedom at Jagiellonian University and the Religious Freedom Clinic at Harvard Law School filed an amicus curiae brief in this case!
Sponsor the CLRF
We are actively looking for conference sponsorship to allow the Centre for Law and Religious Freedom to bring together the brightest scholars, judges, and practitioners from both sides of the Atlantic, and to bring greater attention and scholarly rigor to the foundational value of religious freedom for all to the most renowned academic communities and venues. We are also seeking funding not only to cover conference costs but to raise money for fellowships for clinical students and early-career scholars with financial need and to enable more equitable participation and investment in future generations of religious freedom experts.
Yale Speaker Series – Spring 2026
During the current academic term, our Clinical Students and Fellows were participating in the Free Exercise Speaker Series hosted by Yale Law School’s Free Exercise Clinic, an inter-law-school workshop that brings together faculty and students from religious freedom clinics for in-depth discussion of recent scholarship and works in progress. This year, the Series took on an international character for the first time, thanks to the invitation extended to the Centre for Law and Religious Freedom JU and its Clinical Students and Fellows. Among the speakers presenting in the Series was Josh McDaniel, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at Harvard Law School and Associated Scholar at our Centre.
